Photoshop, for instance, currently offers ARM support in beta, and it’s performed admirably on the Surface Pro X I’m testing so far. Native support for ARM is naturally the best solution, potentially offering better performance and/or battery efficiency than the software can currently achieve on x86 chips. There’s a lot of software that runs exclusively in 64-bit mode these days, and while Microsoft intends to roll out support for 圆4 emulation next year, that’s a long time to go without your favorite apps.

While Apple’s Rosetta software can translate apps designed for x86 (Intel and AMD) hardware relatively efficiently, ARM chips on Windows 10 cannot yet emulate 64-bit applications like Lightroom. Still, it could potentially turn more photographers on Windows towards devices with ARM chips like the Surface Pro X. Lightroom Classic, which many, if not most, photographers still swear by, does not yet run natively on ARM (you can still run it with a performance hit on Apple’s M1 chip). To be clear though, only the modern version of Lightroom supports ARM. Adobe today announced the latest version of Lightroom supports both Apple’s new M1 chips and ARM on Windows 10, suddenly making these devices much more viable alternatives for photographers. That’s being significantly mitigated today. For many photographers, the lack of native ARM support in Adobe Lightroom would make moving to an ARM-based chip a nonstarter. I don't want to launch now and see what version exactly, but I have the green "up to date" dot and I think I saw it updating yesterday.ARM-based processors hold major potential to improve performance-per-watt on our PCs, but the biggest hurdle for adopting the technology on laptops and desktops has always been the lack of app support.

As impossible as it seems, Lightroom runs better on my 2012 15" MBP(with 16gb RAM) on the whole than it does on my M1.īTW, I have the CC helper that keeps LR and PS up to date with the latest stable versions. Has anyone else seen anything like this? Most of the reports claim that 8gb is fine even for photo editing, but I'm just not seeing it. It's all memory related I know, and I see memory pressure spiking to 90% in some of the worst of these instances with a "baseline" of about 60% with only LR open and just doing light editing. Lightroom isn't very snappy in rendering images as I'm browsing. Even LR open in the background will make Firefox bog down. NEFs, the system is unuseable for anything else. When I'm doing an import/DNG batch process from my D800 or D810. In any case, I've been running into issues with my 8gb/512gb MBP basically grinding to a halt with Lightroom. I'm regretting it and and I'm waiting to splurge on a maxed out 16" M2 or whatever. I know, I know, I know, I should have bought the 16gb.
